The acting mayor of Orihuela, Antonio Zapata of the PSOE, has announced that it will not stand as a candidate in the primaries for the May elections.

In a statement, Zapata said, “I have to be consistent and I will not engage in a process with which I do not agree”, thus leaving the three remaining candidates to battle for the lead on an equal footing.

The Psoe members hoping to lead their party to victory are Carolina Gracia, who is the current spokesperson for the local group, along with Ana Mas and Paco Escudero.

Meanwhile, Carolina Gracia has taken her own lead already, launching a personal website in which she details the content in which she will fight the campaign, in the hope of becoming the next, and the first elected Psoe mayor of the municipality.

Anybody can visit the website, www.carolinagracia2015.com, in which she describes the elections as an “historic opportunity”, explaining how the socialists have become instrumental in change since the last elections, “We did it through the efforts, involvement and the work of all of us, which allowed us to get a solid citizen confidence through the ballot box.”

You can also read more about both the person and politician that has become one of the most visual in this recent term, as, being the youngest member of the council, Gracia sat on the table of elders, along with Bob Houliston the eldest, which denied the censure motion that could have returned the PP to power and overthrown the coalition government.
