DIERDRE SWAPS CORRIE FOR MOJACAR

CORONATION Street star Deidre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) is to take a break from the cobbled streets of Manchester at her Villa in Mojocar.

Oldham born Kirkbride, 60, has a Casa in Mojácar in the south east of Almería in Andalucia, southern Spain. Kirkbride, married to Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) in the TV soap, has requested extended leave until 2015, that was given by Granada chiefs.

Croaky-voiced Kirkbride has played the part of cigarette smoking Deirdre Barlow spanning over four decades. In 2009 Kirkbride fled her villa in Mojocar after bush fires hit the area. She was among hundreds of people evacuated after raging fires spread.

TV bosses have had a ‘shake-up’ in the show – with leading stars leaving the cast – and Kirkbride has revealed that her schedule left her mentally exhausted. Kirkbride, who lives in Manchester, and has complained of the long hours in the TV studios, said: “At times, it is worse than being delayed at Alicante airport.” Kirkbride is set to take her extended break in Spain, with a flight, via Manchester Airport to Alicante-Elche airport
