Pipes & Drums

Sand, sea and sun provided the ideal setting for the Torrevieja Pipes & Drums to lead the Standards of the Royal British Legion at the start of the Poppy Appeal 2014.

The spectators at Torrevieja were delighted as they watched the parade, which included 2 Chelsea Pensioners, march to the fisherman statue at the end of the Paseo Juan Aparico.

There, a hush fell as a 2 minutes silence paid homage to the fallen servicemen and women who gave their life during the 2 World Wars and the present day conflicts. Speeches followed by Nigel Hails, the District Chairman, the Mayor of Torrevieja and Lloyd Milen, the British Vice Consul. Mr Robin Hargrave, the district poppy appeal coordinator, made a heartfelt appeal to everyone to give generously.

The Standard Bearers stood proudly throughout the speeches which were followed by the Spanish & the British National Anthems played by the band.
