Torrevieja´s water supplier AGAMED, a joint company owned by the city council and Hidraqua, will invest nearly three million euro in improving the water supply to the municipality in 2015, whilst freezing water rates for the year.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has announced that the company will invest a 927,000 euro for the renovation of the drinking water distribution network in various neighbourhoods of the city, more than 600,000 euro in the renovation of the sewage system of several streets and avenues, and more than a million euro in actions to improve storm drains around the area.

Some of the specific projects that will benefit from the investment in storm drains are along the CV-905 road, a site that has seen numerous previous attempts at reducing flooding to local housing estates, the Casa Grande industrial estate, Avenida Rosa Mazón, and Avenida Pacífico on the Urbanización La Veleta.

The drinking water supply will see work take place in the Urbanizaciones Rocío del Mar, El Chaparral, Las Torretas, Altos del Edén, Mediterráneo, La Veleta, Cala Ferris, San Luis, Torreblanca and Calas Blancas, as well as La Mata and again, the Casa Grande industrial estate.

The company has a total of 121,835 customers, with some 10% using the on-line “virtual office” on the website www.agamed.es to access the information relating to bills and charges. The company has also launched a Twitter account this year, infoagamed, which offers useful information as well as service problem alerts, and uses SMS to send information to clients who request it. In addition, their physical offices have attended to over 28,000 people this year, of which over 11,500 have been treated in the months of June, July and August alone.
