THE KING VISITS ALICANTE

King Filipe VI will be in Alicante this week, on his first official visit since being crowned the head of State.

His Majesty will preside over the official opening of the family business congress, XVII edición del Congreso Nacional de la Empresa Familiar, which takes place on Monday.

The event will take place over two days and is held in the Auditorio de la Diputación de Alicante, or ADDA, with the aim this time of supporting family businesses in their role in the economic recovery of the country.

The event will also see political dignitaries taking part, including the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, who will close the conference on Tuesday, and the newly appointed leader of the socialist opposition, Pedro Sánchez, with the Valencian President Alberto Fabra also addressing the delegates.

The inauguration by the King will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, following the first conference chaired by the President of the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Markets, Antonio Campinos.

Pedro Sánchez, will also address the delegates on Monday, with a talk in the afternoon in which he will give his view on the recovery of the Spanish economy, in the “Lights and Shadows”.

Mariano Rajoy will no doubt be humble during his visit to the area, on account of recent revelations regarding corruption in his national party, as well as the historic cases affecting the regional government run by Fabra, and the larger local political groups in Torrevieja and Orihuela, both rocked with their own corruption cases. Rajoy will officially close the event on the Tuesday, with his speech scheduled to take place at 13:15.

The conference is considered to be one of the most compelling business events in Spain. The organisers bring hundreds of businesses together from various sectors, each with an average turnover of 1.5 billion euro, with members such as Inditex, Mercadona, Ferrovial, Acciona, Planeta, Mango, Almirall and Barceló.
