The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon

Despite a torrential downpour of rain last Tuesday Torrevieja’s veterans turned out to mark “Armistice Day’ at La Siesta Evangelical Church and in so doing pay their tributes to the victims of war and terrorism.

In the year that marks the centenary of the outbreak of WW1 they were joined in remembering the fallen by the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, together with the Councillors for Foreigners, Culture and Security, Rosario Martinez, Luis Maria Pizana, and Eduardo Gil Rebollo as well as the Officer for Foreigners, Jean Paul Molero.

Celebrating their 25th year the event was organized by members of the Torrevieja Branch of The Royal British Legion, chaired by Gill Burden.

It also involved veterans of the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force and the Royal Marines.

Following the service wreaths and poppy crosses were placed in the Garden of Remembrance in tribute to those who had fallen in the service of their country with the Snr Dolon laying the wreath on behalf of the city of Torrevieja.

In a short speech the mayor thanked the British community for their invitation, which he always considered to be a great honour. He emphasized the solemnity of the act which he said was of enormous importance to the British community in Torrevieja.
