A beautiful handmade quilt will be auctioned at a Dinner Dance and Show in Asturias Restaurant 29th November in aid of ‘Save our Home Appeal’.

The English-speaking community have taken Alicia and her nine-year-old son Angel to their hearts , they were facing eviction due to a fire at their home two years ago. Now there is some wonderful news this week.

Alicia cared for her ailing parents, when they died, the family lost the pension income and she couldn´t keep up insurance payments.

There was a fire at their home which damaged the property of 3 neighbours. One, through his insurance company, sued and as a result, Alicia was faced with a bill of €4,378.

By doing cleaning and other work she has paid the repair costs of 2 properties and managed to pay the bill for the attendance of the fire brigade (which is a cost in Spain, unlike the UK) but she was unable to pay the insurance company. The threat of court action which almost certainly would have resulted in additional court costs, eviction from her home and her young son being taken into care.

The charity Help at Home Costa Blanca have taken Alicia and Angel´s plight under their wing and organised fund raising events to raise the money needed.

Already more than €1,000 has been donated and promised to the insurance company. As a result they have agreed to suspend the court action until at least the end of February – wonderful news as Alicia was due to attend court on December 15.

Fund raising started in earnest this week with an event at the Celtic Isle – entertainment and a fashion show (with stall holders acting as models) raised €176 on the day with more donations coming in.
Mary Long, of Los Altos, spent four months making a most beautiful quilt, has generously donated it to be auctioned to raise money to help Alicia and Angel.

Materials and her labour of love, mean the quilt is worth at least €400, it will be auctioned at the Help at Home dinner dance at the Asturias Restaurant on November 29th. Guest artist Stefanie the girl with the Golden Voice, Cindy, Juan Carlos, The Touch of Class Act dancers all donating their time.

If you would like to put in a bid for the quilt, contact Help at Home on 603 267 140.
There is a 150 euro fixed reserve.

Tickets €15 for a 3 course meal and show, or €5 show only can be purchased at the Asturias bar (tlf 965 326 369) or at the Charity Centre 117 Flamenca Beach CC Orihuela Costa (tlf 965 328 794).
