This competition attracted nearly a full complement of federated players to Superbowl to take part in this prestigious event in the federation’s calendar.

The competition was sponsored by Totus financial services and Sashma Hearing.
In the rinks (4’s), in the first round, Denis Tolfree, Ilona Ott, Simone Morgan and Pat Fisher just scrapped through with a 15 – 14 win over Jenny Aldridge, Marion Allen, Greg Ellwood and Garry Aldridge.

Other games were won with bigger margins. The final was between Pauline Ball, Geoff Edginton, Frank Ball and Barbara Land against Mary Detheridge, Margaret Kain, Mike Detheridge and Gordon Kain. Scoring was very even at the beginning and on 14 ends they were drawing on 10 shots each, Barbara went into the lead by one shot but did not score again and Gordons team picked up another 4 shots to be Malaga Cup 4’s Champions for 2014

In the Ladies pairs, again Pat Fisher with Simone Morgan had a close game leading Wendy Pemberton and Susan Walker by 9 shots to 3 but unfortunately could not hold their lead and lost 14 – 16.

Wendy and Susan won their next 2 games to reach the final against Jenny Aldridge and Marion Allen. On 10 ends the scores were level at 9 each but Jenny and Marion upped their game and ran to victory winning by 20 shots to 13 to become Ladies Pairs Malaga Cup champions.

In the Men’s Pairs, most first round matches were close games. Mike Glithero and Gordon Kain had a close game and just beat Greg Ellwood and Garry Aldridge 19 -18. Lennie Dinneen and Brian Todd had to fight to gain a close victory over John Morgan and Barry Pemberton 16 – 14.

Mike Goodwin and John Owen beat Geoff Edginton and Frank Ball by 16 shots to 13. Manuael Bautista and Terry Holden Had a close victory over Denis King and Sandy Guthrie by 18 – 16. The finalists after winning through having fought hard in their games were Alan Turner and Malcolm Greenwood against Terry Morgan and Mike Detheridge.

It was a close game upto the 9th end but then Terry and Mike scored on every next end apart from one finishing 19 – 9 to become Malaga Cup Men’s Pairs Champions for 2014.

John Carr thanked Superbowl and staff for their good service, thanked Margaret Kain, John Owen and Susan Walker for organising the event, thanked the umpires, Denis Tolfree, Bill Ogden and Gordon Adams and thanked James from Totus, (contacted by Mike Glithero) and Sashma Hearing, (contacted by Terry Morgan), for sponsoring the event.

James then presented all the prize money and Trophies and then all the photos were taken.
Susan Walker thanked all the competitors for entering, being punctual, being smartly dressed, playing bowls in the friendliness and competitive spirit that our lovely game deserves.

She then handed the green back to Superbowl and sat down with a well deserved drink (with a touch of alcohol)!!
