Hub Meerkats and Breakaways Bears continue unbeaten after both enjoyed decent home victories this week.

Hot on the heels of the Kats are the Hyenas who somehow gave the Jackals a pounding even with a couple of regulars missing. Tracy Simpson´s Jaguars keep in touch with Breakaways despite dropping a point to the unpredictable Misfits but surprise surprise their next league game is entertaining the Bears.

Should be quite a tussle in the re-arranged Junction throw. This week sees the second round of the KO Cup and the new KO Handicap Plate. Cup holders Meerkats host Busters, a repeat of last season´s final whilst Division 2 table toppers Breakaways visit Division 1 Gogarty´s.

Junction Jackals have a tricky tie at Que Pasa where they face the Kestrels. In the Plate, for teams defeated in the first round, Division 1 Eagles travel down to Los Dolses and the Sporting Life venue of the Misfits.

The home side will start 2-0 up in the first of 7 legs competition and with some decent fire power the Misfits could well find themselves in the next round.

Busters suffered consecutive 7-5 defeats this week after their trip to Que Pasa Eagles. In fact the Playa Flamenca outfit have only gained one point from their last 5 league fixtures plus a lone victory in 7 courtesy of the KO Cup, a surprisingly statistic considering their boast Mark Filer, Peter O´Rourke and Paul Dowington in their line up.

A complete mystery! Eagle Jim Storey D15 opened the hosts account after three figure scores from Mel Bettell and Kevin Wood, Dowington responding with 120. Busters´ girls levelled via Babs Warren on D6, well supported by Shirley Roberts 105 and Irene Russell 114.

The home side took the next two, Bettell figuring again with 125, Wood 100 and D20 second arrow. Dowington pulled his side back into the game on D16, with one pair left before the break. The formidable partnership of Stuart Clark and Den Hall had throw against Filer and Russell, Hall recording a 140. Busters´ response was a ton from Russell, 2×100 from Filer plus D2 for 3 apiece at half time. Dowington gave the visitors the lead for the first time on D6 only to lose it again via the efforts of Jim Waddell taking out 61 in 3 despite a Warren ton.

Filer made it all square in his usual stylish manner with 2×100 a 140 with D8 and D10 for 2-0 against Eagles captain Hall 100. At 4-5 up it looked good news for Busters, requiring just one leg with three opportunities for at least a point. O´Rourke was next posting 100 and 119, Bettell wasn’t as explosive but two doubles D9 and D10 made it all square.

Clark´s 2×100, D10 and D16 was too much for Russell as the Eagles eased back into the lead 6-5. A massive 160 from Wood in the last took the wind out of Robert´s sails, as Wood continued the advantage wining in two straight on D10 and D6 for a narrow victory.

Meerkats stumbled their way to victory at home to Gogarty´s, two of their players enjoying the rain in the UK. It was yet another lack lustre performance from the current league champions, how long before losing their unbeaten run is anybody´s guess. Gogarty´s stalwart Ernie Wilson gave the La Zenia visitors an early lead on D20, which was wiped out next leg by Lee Maiden on D4 after Pat Abrams 85,140 and Paul Durrant 99 had set up the finish.

Alan Ostrowski 120 and D15 made it 2-1 after the triples. Wilson teamed up with John Williams in the first pair to face Abrams and Trevor Scammell, Williams promptly reducing the deficit on D8. Maiden made it 3 for the Kats on D20, Durrant contributing a ton, leaving Ostrowski 81,85 and Todd D20 to complete the first half 4-2.

Danas Bobinas D3 and D16 increased the lead, Abrams ensuring the point for the hosts with an excellent 120 out (S29,T20,D20) and then D10 despite Williams concerted efforts.

Gogarty´s captain Steve Wood was next playing the ever improving Ostrowski. The Pole could only muster 95 against a pumped up Wood, who recorded a 140 and D18 to take the first. Scores was level in the second, but it was the captain who made the double, this time on D10 for 2-0.

His victory roar must have been heard back in La Zenia frightening the young Ostrowski and many of his elder Kats! Durrant composed himself after being scared to death by Wood, to take out a below par Kevin Fitzpatrick 2-0 on D6 and D1 after 135,100, for the match.

Wilson enjoyed a fine 97 out in the next (T19,D20) but not sufficient as Todd recorded 3×95,97,133 and D16 twice in the three leg encounter. Maiden wrapped up the evening blitzing the undeserving Gail Todd 100,140,D16 then 95,100,85,95,D10,D10 in two darts for 9-3 and both points.

Some poor finishing by Breakaways nearly cost them the match playing their most Royals the Queens of Pint Depot. Some excellent scoring from Del Lister, Mike Douglas and Sarah Simpson were wasted as the Queens made up a 300 point deficit neither side able to finish.

Simpson eventually showed the way. Ivan Jones 2×100 gave the Breakaways a lead in excess of 200 points but yet again finishing eluded them, this time however they paid the price via Rachael Broadhead on D3. Douglas made it 2-1 for the hosts on D5, the pairs to play.

Marie Dunne´s efforts in the scoring department didn’t count as Jones increased the lead to 3-1. It was Douglas again on D2 for the second pairs, Queens sitting on 48 but not having the opportunity of converting the points.

Good scoring from Alan Strong and Paul Lear the latter nailing D10 in the first pairs giving the Bears a commanding 5-1 advantage that could have been so different. Dunne and Lister traded 125s in a superb leg, both missing D18, Lister finally taking out D2 for at least a match draw.

Margaret Griffiths was always chasing Simpson in the next, but still managed to leave a double, her opponent completing the 501 after 85,140 and D5 to take the match. Debbie Wright didn’t take her chances playing a consistent Jones, the Bear making it 8 for the hosts.

Lorraine Cox showed how the Royals should be playing consistently hitting high scores and completing the leg on D9. Douglas made it 9 for the Bears on D3 leaving Broadhead to take out a free scoring Lear for 3 legs to the Queens.

Que Pasa Kestrels leap frog the Tavern Drivers after a narrow away victory. The Tavern opened up with the first two triples, before Brett Badlove got one back for Que Pasa on D6. Michelle Lane and Gilly Kirby outgunned John Dursley and Ralph Weatherby, Kirby finding her first arrow in D11.

Two more victories followed from the Tavern giving them a 4-2 advantage at half time. A complete turn round followed after the break Harvey Kane 98,85,D1, Michelle Lane D6 and Chris Miles D16 taking the score to 5-4.

Justin Hepburn levelled for the Tavern against an unlucky Kirby, leaving two legs remaining. Alan Preston gave the Kestrels the lead and a point leaving Badlove the opportunity of taking the honours on D16 and match against Zak Green.

Hyenas once again gave an impressive performance led by sometime golfer Nick Spicer. 5×100 and a 118 was his tally, well supported by Joe Miller 100,2×140, Cyril Harrison 2×100,1×135 and Joe Hawkins 100,139 plus a tasty 78 out (S18,S20,D20). Keith King was the only Jackals victor, Joe Hawkins gaining the 7th and winning leg for 2 points.

Junction Jaguars retain second spot after a nail biter to Sporting Life. Dee Green took the first for the visitors John Ashworth levelling on D19. Angie Craggs tidied up 55 using S19,D18, to complete the triples. Lucy Maiden found D15 for 1-3, followed by D2 from Simone de Lacy.

Wendy Hayward´s 116 not enough as George Cane´s D7 made the score 2-4. Sonya Cooper used three darts for a fine 64 on D19 to give the hosts three legs. Hayward made it 5 for Jaguars only for Karl Cooper to take the next. Three 80 plus scores and a double from Leah Chesworth were enough to take the valuable scalp of de Lacy 101.

Cane ensured the draw leaving Jo Brown and Tracy Simpson to play for the honours. In spite of a good performance from Brown it was Simpson to take the leg on D2 earning a valuable point.

Porter House sit comfortably in third place enjoying a convincing victory over the Pint Depot Kings. Matt Cummins couldn’t reproduce his heroic efforts of last week but once again Gary Minor came to the Kings rescue taking their only leg in the singles against Mike Newberry.

Sid Cross took out two of the first 6 legs along with 2×100, Yvonne Rouffignac D11, Peter Ayres D2, Ray Hayes D12, and Ray Sanderson D4 taking the other four legs. Captain Sanderson won the match for the Porters, winning two straight against Frankie Wieczorek hitting 2×100,100 and 140.

Cross added two more tons in his two straight game, Rouffignac scoring 100,119 and 156 in her two winning legs over Martin Bynorth.

A disappointing season so far for the Kings, the complete opposite for the Porters.
