Elche will provide the home to Spain´s latest photovoltaic solar power plant.
The 250 megawatt generating power house, more than double the original 100 megawatt planned plant, will be constructed in spring at Finca de la Marquesa, on the Elche to El Altet road.
The 250,000 solar panels will cover a land area of 100 hectares and the plant will provide power to about 20,000 families, expected to be distributed through the local area. As part of the ongoing commitment to renewable energies, the creation of the site will prevent 30,000 tons of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere.
The 250 million euro investment for the scheme will be provided by the private sector, with “various” foreign funds involved in the scheme, including investment from China.
The five-phase construction is expected to be completed by 2020.
