PETANCA PLAYERS AND THE 3 KINGS PARADE

Did you ever wonder what petanca players get up to when not playing? Wonder no more.. We all know that in Spain the most important date of the Christmas period is 5/6th January.

The evening of the 5th is when all towns, villages and hamlets welcome the arrival of the 3 Kings. Families, especially with children, line the route the Kings will take in the hope of receiving sweets thrown by the Kings and then they can dash home to open any presents they may have been given.

All local associations and groups are encouraged to take part and for the past 3 years various petanca clubs have taken part — in a mixture of brilliant disguises!!!

The Orihuela Costa parade was the one chosen by 4 members of Costa Knights, Peter and Susan Ward, Liz and Moss Davies, 1 member of Los Bandidos, Linda Haymes and 1 member of Pumas, Liz McPherson and oh a Crazy lady named Diane.

Our little group were inspired by a suggestion of a member of Costa Knights – Janice – to wear ‘onesies’ being readily available and warm, it was a marvellous idea. So, as you see the animals on parade were – parrot, kangaroo, lion, penguin, zebra, giraffe and a bear.

Each year the parade gets better and this year was no exception and the fireworks were a splendid highlight.

We had a lot of fun, its such a happy occasion. Brandy, walk, brandy what could be better!
