MURO CF 2 CD TORREVIEJA 4

Muro CF went into Sunday evening’s game still hurting from last weekend’s disastrous 5-0 defeat away at Cullera prior to which manager Pepe Aroca had guided them to a couple of decent wins and a spot in the Tercera play offs.

But having dropped from 4th to 8th as a result of that reversal Aroca said that he was hoping that the visit of CD Torrevieja would provide his side with the springboard needed to get their season back on track.

The Salineros however had ideas of their own having gathered 11 points from their last 5 matches with Galiana guiding his side from 16th to 5th, just a single point from that much sought after 4th spot. So there was all to play for at La Llometa on Sunday evening with neither outfit daring to consider anything but a win.

And it was the home side that got off to the quicker start, almost punishing Torry in the opening seconds. After Lucas had lobbed the advancing Oscar it was only the quick thinking Alexis that saved Torry from going a goal behind when he tracked back to clear off the line and save a certain goal.

Muro continued to exert pressure during those opening minutes so they were stunned when a break on 5 minutes saw an exquisite cross from Adrian nicely met by Cesar for the Torry striker to power his header into the back of the Muro net. At that stage the pressure had all been exerted by the home team.
But this was the lift that the visitors needed and as their confidence grew so did their grip on the game.

Torry had the ball in the net for a 2nd time on 7 minutes but the goal was rightly disallowed by the referee for a push. But the Salineros just kept coming.

Although Oscar was called into action with an excellent save from Mario on 16 mins as a result of a rare Muro raid it was all CD Torrevieja with both Ferran and Cesar going close.

The pressure paid off on 24 mins when the visitors went further ahead. Once again it was the hard working Cesar who shot under the legs of Gil in the Muro goal after being fed through by Rafa Gomez.
This game really was a great advert for Tercera football and at that stage it showed just how much Torry had improved since the turn of the year both in physicality and in skill.

The visitors kept their momentum for long periods of the 2nd half adding a 3rd through Adrian from a Rafa assist on 57 mins and a 4th from Rafa himself with a low drive on 67 mins. At this stage it was no more than they deserved but as is often the case they took their foot off the gas to allow Muro back into the Game.

Mario pulled one back on 68 and then Lucas added a Muro 2nd on 85 mins to give the home side at least a mark of respectability. But all in all this was a polished performance from the Salineros and, following their very first ever success at La Llometa, one that will give them confidence going into the final months of the season.

Next Sunday Torrevieja entertain lowly Ribarroja in a game kicking off at the Vicente Garcia at 5pm when new signing Pinera from Segunda B outfit Yeclano could well be on show.
