PREMIER DIVISION – 23rd January 2015. The Vega Baja Premier Golf League held its fourth round of matches at the Las Colinas Golf and Country Club, venue for the European Tour Qualifying school,

It was certainly on the cold side but it was clear blue skies, but with slick greens it proved a strong test for the teams.

Rockets Golf Society played local team EuroToffs and had their best victory to date coming in with a 3½ to ½ victory with the widest point’s margin of the day.
League leaders wanted to increase their lead over the second place team and could only manage a draw with Club 25 Serena but as a result of being seven points better on the overall points took the bonus points, which was not the result they wanted.

Paddy’s Point G.S. must have relished the opportunity of taking on the bottom place La Manga Residents who were back to near normal strength with the return of Captain Tony Milne. But Paddy’s Point achieved a win in a low scoring match, but the points were shared so it was 1 bonus point each

Las Ramblas G.S. played Altea based Don Cayo who were just a couple of points behind them but captain on the day Barbara Hitchings must be happy with a 3½ to 1½ win and taking the bonus points. This was the highest scoring match of the day with 279 points and Don Cayo with the second highest poinst total should be pleased although disappointed at losing.

The European Tour approved course coupled with the wintery conditions provided a challenge for the teams of the league but eight pairings managed to break Par, the best scoring pairings were Geoff Biggerstaff/Terry Field (Las Ramblas G S) 39 points, Ken Olrenshaw/Ian Hunt (La Manga North G S) Malcolm Anderson/Les Yates (Rockets G S) 38 points, Ron Chambers/Alan Moody (Rockets G S), Alan Roles/Rune Hagberg (Don Cayo G S) 37 points.

Thanks to Sean Corte Real – Director of Operations at Las Colinas for making the VBPGL welcome at Las Colinas.

The fifth round of matches is on Friday 6th February, back to the Costa Calida and IRM course Suarines Golf, which is a desert style design. With a two Tee start at 10:06
