This weekend the Swimming Federation of Alicante presented the “3rd Timed Swimming Control” for club swimmers aged 12 and older. The competition was hosted by the Municipal 25 m Pool in Petrer. Swimmers from the 19 Regional clubs competed across 38 different races varying distances and strokes. Each swimmer being allowed a maximum of 3 races across the two days.

Eight of “Club Natacion Torrevieja’s” swimmers worked hard in their events and for most saw improvements in their previous best times. Normally this meet is a difficult return to competitive swimming after breaks in training throughout December and January. Adding to this some members of the team were unable to participate due to seasonal illnesses!

Of those who did compete Piroska Rideg, swimming first in the 800 m Freestyle gained a new personal best time of 10:48:12 more than 30 seconds better than her previous time.

Skye Burns then knocked 2 seconds off her 50 m Butterfly time 41:44 and 3 seconds off her 100 m Freestyle event 1:19;21, a massive improvement of over 30 seconds since her first race a year ago. Louise Brassington and Vicki Connolly kept a steady pace in their 100 m and 400 m Freestyle events but on this occasion were not quite up to personal bests.

Pauls Garcia next followed with a new best time in 100 m Freestyle of 1:08;62 and gaining a regional qualifying time for the Winter Regional Championships to be held in Castellon in March. Paula also matched her previous 100 m Individual Medley time.

The two male members of the team on this occasion had excellent swims in their first races, Yuriy Lymur with a new best in the 50 m Freestyle of 57:62 and Elian Del Rio Castillo in his 100 m Freestyle with a time of 1:01;72. Elian worked hard in his 400 m Freestyle but didn’t match his PB, but excitement was high as it was Elian’s birthday!

The biggest surprises of the weekend came with Zoe Connolly’s three races. In the 200 m Butterfly she reduced her previous time by 43 seconds and achieved a Regional Qualifying time with 2:50;53, well under the required time by 11 seconds.

Zoe then went onto race on Sunday in the 100 m Butterfly and 200 m Freestyle events and continued in the same manner. In her 100 m Butterfly Zoe won a Regional Qualifying times with 4 seconds to spare with a new best time of 1:16:48 and her 200 m Freestyle with a spare 5 seconds and a new best time of 2:26;46.
