CF TORRE LEVANTE 4 CD TORREVIEJA 0

Having played so well in their last 4 outings on the road, Torry deservedly took a nosedive against an impressive Torre Levante outfit, which also completed a double for the side from north Valencia, who in my opinion are without doubt the best side Torry have faced this season.

There can be no excuses, for the hosts simply outshone their visitors in all departments. For once, no blame can be attached to the referee, for Senor Gomez from Elche controlled the match superbly, allowing the victors to benefit from his sensible use of the advantage clause, whilst only cautioning when necessary. So, why have Torry lost the last 2 matches so dismally, since reaching the dizzy heights of 2nd in div 3?

Basically, it’s been the same group of players involved in both good and not so good displays, but somehow the attitude has changed dramatically. Poor distribution, reluctance to shoot at goal, lack of aggression and commitment, are just some of the reasons why Galiana’s men have produced the results they have. Galiana must take some of the blame, for his selection and tactics have at times been bewildering, but he will point to the many games when he got it right. But now it’s broke, and needs fixing, quickly!!

After 14 mins, Berna clumsily upended an opponent inside the box, allowing Deivid to send Oscar the wrong way from the spot. A comical defensive mix up 10 min later, allowed Marcos to square the ball to Deivid, presenting him the simplest of tap ins. Only a last ditch clearance off the line by Alexis on the stroke of half time, prevented the visitors from falling further behind. Galiana’s team talk during the interval didn’t have the desired effect, for within 2 mins of the restart, Corell shot into the side netting, with Oscar out of position.

Jorge then pressed the self destruct button, when he clearly fouled Marcos, giving Deivid the opportunity to convert the resultant penalty, which he duly obliged. Torry had no answer for Deivid, who thoroughly deserved his hat trick, and quite easily could have had more. Even the hosts defenders got in on the act, as Oscar was having to deal with shots from all directions.

In fact, had it not been for Torry’s keepers brilliance, 7 or 8 goals would not have flattered their opponents. A sad statistic, is that sub Corella’s weak shot on 76 mins, was Torry’s first on target! Two mins later, that number was doubled, for full back Vicente’s venomous drive was acrobatically saved, as Torry embarked on a belated show of desire to restore some pride.

Unfortunately, the fight back was short lived, for on 80 mins, that man Deivid provided an assist for Juanra to strike a dipping 20 yard effort, which gave Oscar no chance. Torry did get the ball in the net late on, but Cesar’s effort was ruled out for offside, then in stoppage time, new signing sub Pinera shot straight at the keeper, when through on goal. Both Berna and Jorge picked up bookings for their penalty misdemeanours, alongside team mate Ruben, whilst the hosts were content to let their skilful play do the talking!

On Thurs 5 Dec, 7.30 ko, Torry welcome a Norwegian 2nd div side to Vicente Garcia Stadium for a friendly, which hopefully manager Galiana will use to good effect. Entrance is free, so why not come along?

Then on Sun 8 Dec, ko 12.00 MIDDAY, Torry are again at Vicente Garcia, when they face Villarreal ‘C’. Having already beaten lowly Villarreal, Torry must go all out to make sure that their fans are treated to an entertaining double!
