6th Febraury 2015 at Saurines de la Torre Golf – The Vega Baja Premier Golf League was at the desert style IRM course Saurines del la Torre Golf for the fifth round of fixtures, it was quiet cold but thankfully little wind and bright sunshine, which was not exactly you would expect for a desert course. Despite this there were some decent scores

One of the most interesting factors in the Vega Baja League format is that even if a team loses it match it can still earn some points for a resilient performance. This is exactly what happened when Don Cayo G S took league leaders La Manga North, although La Manga came out 3 – 1 victors, simply by scoring more points, albeit one, Dan Cayo earned three bonus points thus depriving La Manga of top spot.

Second place Las Ramblas G. S. wanted to put in a good performance to keep the pressure on La Manga North and that’s exactly what they did with a whitewash over EuroToffs along wit it scoring the most points on the day 138, which meant that they leapfrogged La manga and now lead to table by three points, the three bonus points that La Manga let slip,

The ever improving Rockets G S entertained Paddy’s Point G.S. and the matches were shared but Rockets were grateful to Alan Moody who was on top form scoring 36 of the 38 points their pairing scored and the best match score on the day and also meant Rockets were the second highest scorers.

The other La Manga team RGA that’s Residents Golf Association eased from their bottom spot but beating the normally strong Club25 Serena team 3 – 1 and only fell short of as whitewash by the narrowest of margins just 2 points by the last grou

The desert style course coupled with the wintery conditions kept scoring down a little apart for one pairing who broke Par, Alan Moody/Larry Lambe (Rockets G S) 38 points, others that came close were Rodney Smith/Peter Daggart (Rockets G S) 36 points, Tony Milne/Bernard Cahill (La Manga RGA) 36 points, Bryan Neale/Olga Douglas & Barbara Hitchings/Mick Brentnall (Las Ramblas G S) 36 points, Myra Cole/Elsie Cowie (Paddy’s Point G S) 34 points.

The sixth round of matches is on Friday 7th March, again on the Costa Calida and IRM Nike Golfcourse Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort. With a two Tee start at 10:06 this is the penultimate round of matches, and still a lot to play for.
