Already the home to an international exhibition of street art along the Vinalopó River, Elche is set to see more colourful creations along the streets, as part of a campaign to offer street artists the opportunity to paint the recycling bins in the city.
Proyecto Vibora, or Project Viper, saw the base of the river painted with colourful montages and murals that can be viewed from the high bridges of the city, attracting visitors from around the globe.
Now, as part of Proyecto Vibora II, the new recycling bins will also be painted, with a dozen or so artists already involved in the project to transform the dull green containers.
Although paining of bins is not unique and has been done in many areas already, the uniqueness of the home of the Vinalopó river project means that the containers in Elche will enhance what is already established as making the city the canvas for such a diverse range of artworks.
