Warrington Lads Go – Epic Ride Lisbon to Spain in aid of Cancer Research

My brother and his friends were recently published in Eye on Spain.

http:/www.eyeonspain.com/blogs/eoscontributers/14428/600-miles-in-six-day-for-charity-lisbon—mojacar.aspx

also in our local paper The Warrington Guardian and on their website. They have also had some coverage on Smooth FM Radio.

My brother Martin Finnegan and his friends, Mick Skerrett, Wayne Buckles, Stuart Hardman and Terry Reid are all keen cyclists who have been raising funds for Cancer Research. They will soon be doing there most challenging Bike Ride taking them across Spain on 28th March 2015.

They will be going from Lisbon to Mojacar and aim to cycle 100 miles a day, they are aiming to get from coast to coast but going through a demanding section of the Nevada Mountains.

Their route will take them Lisbon to Estremoz, then onto Llerena, Cordoba, Granada, Almeria, Mojacar

There all a bunch of good friends and hard working Warrington lads who have funded the trip themselves so every penny raised will be donated to Cancer Research. They say they want to raise as much as possible for cancer research and hope that it will go some way to one day stamp out this terrible disease.

TRAINING is under way by members of the Woolston Riders, who have set themselves the gruelling challenge of riding 100 miles for six days straight. Friends Terry Reid, aged 48, Wayne Buckles, aged 49, Mick Skerrett, aged 52, and Martin Finnegan, aged 47, – along with Stuart Hardman, aged 47, as support driver – will be setting off from Portugal on March 29 to complete their charity mission

The team will be accompanied by their lucky mascot – a stuffed monkey who goes by the name of Dave who they count as their biggest yet quietest cheerleader. The plan is to finish the bike ride six days later in Mojácar in southern Spain on April 3. Martin said: “We have months of hard training ahead of us to get to the level of fitness we need to be at but we are in good shape having already trained for months.”

The keen cyclists will be raising funds for Cancer Research UK in memory of Martin’s cousin Melissa Renouf, who died in October 2013, aged 38, from the disease.

He said: “We have been inspired by Melissa who lost her brave battle in 2013.

“We want to raise as much as possible for Cancer Research and hope that it will go some way to one day stamp out this terrible disease.

“This ride is being funded by ourselves so all donations will go to Cancer Research.”

Also the reason my brother got involved so much with the charity Cancer Research he believes research is absolutely vital in the aim that one day there will be a cure for the horrible disease and one day Cancer will be totally stamped out. Also Martin was inspired by our Cousin Howards family in Perth, Australia, Our cousins`s daughter Melissa was only 38 years old and in her own words on her twitter page www.twitter.com/MelRen74

She had written – ‘Trying to win the battle for life’. Sadly cancer claimed her life in 2013 she was only 38, married and with four young children.

Throughout Melissa`s illness her mum and dad our cousin, Howard Finn and his wife Jo-anne did everything they could to raise awareness through charity fundraising for Cancer Research and Howard took part in Charity Bike Rides, Perth Ride to Conquer Cancer. Melissa also bravely battled on for approximately four years and also helped to support others.

Martin and his friends are also aware of other people they know who are battling this awful disease and they aim to raise as much as possible for vital Cancer Research and that is why there next planned event is titled – EPIC RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER LISBON-MOJACAR
