Nine people have lost their lives on the roads of Spain this weekend, including two cyclists and a motorcyclist, in eight fatal crashes during the weekend.
In the provisional data released by the DGT until 20:00 on Sunday night, four people have also been seriously injured and another six suffered minor injuries.
The busiest day was Saturday when there were six accidents, resulting in seven people being killed and ten suffering injuries.
A cyclist was killed in one of Saturday´s incidents, which was in the Cádiz town of Puerto de Santa María. The other cyclist was killed on Friday in the Granada town of Sorvilán, when it is believed the cyclist lost control at high speed.
The motorcyclist dies on Sunday in the only recorded fatal incident of the day, although a couple in their 60´s were lucky to escape alive when their motor home overturned in the Villademor de la Vega area in the province of León.
Meanwhile, in another lucky escape on Sunday, the driver of a car in Seville received minor injuries when his vehicle collided with an ambulance. The ambulance crew also survived unhurt.
Finally, a number of Guardia Civil officers escaped with minor injuries when a car smashed into two patrol vehicles in El Vendrell. The marked Guardia Civil Nissan X-Trail was carrying four officers and a Peugeot 307 carrying two, when they were both rammed by a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. The Moroccan driver was arrested by the Catalan police and charged with a crime against road safety.
