The Catalan Police have charged a motorcyclist with a serious crime against road safety, after clocking the vehicle travelling at 143 kilometres per hour on a road where the maximum limit is 50.
The incident occurred during the week on calle Doctor Aiguader in Barcelona, when the police were involved in a speed check point.
The motorcyclist is facing criminal charges on account of the excessive speed, which amplifies the offense beyond an administrative sanction, and so the biker may face a prison sentence for the crime, a hefty fine and community service.
The police launched an extensive campaign to clamp down on speeding motorists in the interest prevention, aimed at reducing the accident rate, the number of victims and potential severity of injuries.
