Passenger Ferry Evacuated due to Fire
More than 150 passengers were evacuated from a ferry on a Valencia to Palma de Mallorca Tuesday after it caught fire.
All passengers were reported to be safe having been transferred by lifeboats to another vessel.
The ship, Sorrento, operated by the Transmediterránea-Acciona company, asked for assistance some 15 nautical miles southwest of Mallorca at 13:50.
A number of rescue ships and helicopters were immediately dispatched to the scene, including two operated by the Guardia Civil.
The passengers were all evacuated without incident, although two crew members had to be airlifted off the vessel after they failed to reach the evacuation zone.
