Torry started their home match against Crevillente in 10th place, whilst their derby rivals sat 1 place and 3 points higher up the table.

With only 3 games remaining, qualification for the play offs looked very much an improbability for Torry, while their visitors were still rather better placed just 4pts behind fourth-placed Orihuela.

It took 2 attempts for the reverse fixture to be concluded, following an almighty downpour forcing an abandonment of the original match last November, with both sides eventually settling for a 1-1 draw.

Sunday’s return fixture at the Vicente Garcia was an equally tight affair with both sides quickly closing down each other at the first sign of any opportunity. The hosts enjoyed huge swathes of possession but struggled to break down a resilient Crevillente outfit, and on the balance of the first half, Crevillente perhaps deserved to go into the half time break with their noses in front.

The only goal came just prior to the half time interval, a low, dipping drive from Lolo, which an outstretched Oscar just about managed to get his fingertips to. It was the only real opportunity of an otherwise lackluster half which ended with both Jorge and Borja seeing yellow as Torry lost their way following the Crevillente goal.

If the visitors shaded the first period the home side certainly had the upper hand in the second as Pedreno’s men soon settled into their passing stride. There was much more urgency from Torrevieja as they dominated for long periods. Unfortunately they were unable to turn it into chances as the visitors again set themselves up to make life difficult for the hosts.

But they were back on level terms on the hour mark after a clear handball in the box. A tremendous penalty from Rafa under pressure, despite the ridiculous antics from Nacho in the Crevillente goal. He sent the keeper the wrong way to give the visitors the point they undoubtedly deserved.

A late yellow for Cristian, his second of the game, took the gloss of an otherwise decent performance from Torry which sub Corella could have made even better had he not spurned a glorious opportunity in the dying minutes, heading wide from an unmarked position as he met Rafa’s cross at the far post.

But in the cold light of day the result did nothing for the promotion prospects of either team and in the case of Torry, now completely out of touch of the playoffs, they have nothing really left to play for but position and pride.

The Torry Army hope to be taking a coach to the last away game of the season at La Nucia, on Sun 10 May.

One player will not feature in the match for Torry is striker Ferran, who has recently left the club, for Icelandic outfit UMF Leiknir.
