Torrevieja’s Guardia Civil has arrested a man this morning for allegedly stabbing to death the 10 year old son of his partner. Following the assault the boy was rushed to Torrevieja hospital where, despite the attention of trauma specialists, he died from stab wounds to the chest.
The 49 year old man then tried to end his own life by stabbing himself in the chest but he was rushed to Torrevieja hospital where he remains in intensive care. The Guardia Civil are said to be waiting by his bedside to formally charge and arrest him when he regains consciousness.
A spokesman for the Guardia said that they received a call from a woman just after 2.30 am on on Monday morning. She said that she was reporting a case of gender violence in the Torre Almendros urbanization of Torrevieja.
When they arrived at the house they found the young boy and the alleged perpetrator, who is said to have a history of violence, covered in blood.
On interviewing the distressed mother she claimed that during a heated exchange her partner had assaulted her son with a kitchen knife.
When they heard of the incident Torrevieja Council observed a minute’s of silence in protest against the death.
