In collaboration with their colleagues in Poland, officers from the National Police have recovered 70 stolen vehicles and arrested 14 individuals in connection with an investigation into an organised international unit dedicated to stealing and distributing stolen cars.
The group were believed to have been operational across the continent, with bases primarily set up in Spain and Poland, evidence revealed that their activities took place in different countries such as the UK, Germany, Italy, Romania and Equatorial Guinea.
The group divided their operations between members who were responsible for functions between the theft of vehicles, the alteration of the identification, breaking into component parts, providing logistical supplies and sales, as well as transportation to different countries in Europe.
During the course of the ten month long investigation, officers uncovered a criminal network that would masquerade as legitimate transportation operators, which would enable them to move the vehicles as parts without apparent suspicion.
The arrests took place following raids of homes and businesses in Madrid, Toledo and Guadalajara.
