Bob Houliston
Bob Houliston is a founder member of C.L.A.R.O. Elected President in 2006 and re-elected every year since. Bob first started having holidays in Orihuela Costa during the 1980’s then moved here to live after his retirement in 2002. For 29 years was a European Commission civil servant, serving mainly in Brussels but with spells in New Delhi and Tunisia.

10 years prior to 1973 he was a member of British diplomatic service with postings to Copenhagen and Geneva. He became involved in Orihuela Costa politics due to the injustice of the Orihuela-based political parties siphoning off taxes paid by Orihuela Costa residents to spend essentially on those who could deliver votes to re-elect them. He feels strongly that the people of Orihuela Costa have should exercise their right to vote and that they should receive fair treatment and services from the Orihuela local government.

Jan Holden
Jan Holden originates from Birmingham and always lived and worked near Birmingham until she moved to Spain. She was a social worker before she started her long teaching career delivering qualifying social work courses and social care courses.

She moved to Spain with her two children in 2000, living firstly in Torrevieja and for the last five years in Orihuela Costa. She became involved in local politics as a direct consequence of the analysing the discrimination shown by the politicians of Orihuela to the people of the Orihuela Costa. She feels very strongly that the Costa should have a fair share of the council budget and that that the people of Orihuela Costa should have the same services and facilities as the people living in Orihuela.

Norah Bond
Norah Bond was born in Kent but lived in Berkshire for many years where she had a large range of business interests. Norah took an active role in the Local Business Partnership in her area and was the secretary of the North Hampshire Federation of Small Businesses. She retired to Spain 2000, mainly due to health problems.

Since living on Orihuela Costa Norah founded Help At Home Costa Blanca and was its first President and she is currently Secretary General of the charity that provides help to those in need in their own homes, of all ages and nationalities. She has been involved with C.L.A.R.O for many years and has been a long standing member of the Executive Committee. She is passionate about the rights of people living on the coast and their requirements for improved social services.

Karl Failoni

Karl Failoni comes from Graz, Austria. Prior to moving to Spain he spent forty years in the restaurant business in the UK, working in Birmingham, Manchester and Saddleworth, plus two years in Jersey. He moved to Spain upon retirement and had hoped to enjoy the climate and the culture; however he soon became very active in C.L.A.R.O and local politics.

He feels that the coast should have its fair share of amenities and finances without everything being based in Orihuela. He firmly believes that all the people in the Orihuela municipality should be treated equally where ever they live. He wants to see that families living in Orihuela Costa have a positive future with good education and job opportunities. He wants everyone in Orihuela to have their rights respected and to be treated equally.

Helene Akerman
Helene Akerman was born in Sweden but lived for many years in the UK before she moved to Orihuela Costa with her two children when she undertook a work placement as part of her language university course one and a half years ago. She is presently employed in the Scandinavian School teaching Spanish, English and Music.

She very quickly became engrossed in local politics and C.L.A.R.O when she realised how neglected Orihuela Costa was in comparison to Orihuela. She passionately believes that all the children of Orihuela Costa should have good educational and leisure opportunities and that there should be career opportunities available here on the coast to ensure that families can grow and prosper. She wants to make sure that Orihuela Costa is a place where families can have a positive future

Paulina Wysokinska
Paulina Wysokinska originates from Waszawa, Poland but immigrated to Spain 12 years ago to enjoy a better life style for herself and her family in a country with a sunny climate. Paulina works in insurance and as a Community Administrator where her language skills in English, Spanish, Polish and Russian are in high demand. She became involved in local politics and C.L.A.R.O due to the poor school facilities offered in Orihuela Costa and the lack of facilities for children and families.

She firmly believes that children are the future of any community and that school and amenities should be available to ensure that children have positive educational opportunities. Her number one priority is that the coast receives a fair budget and has all the proper services to meet the needs of its varied population.

Patricia Hamer
Patricia Hamer lived in Oxfordshire working for the DHSS before retiring and moving to Spain in 2006 due to a health scare. She has been involved in local politics and C.L.A.R.O for many years and has worked hard to increase the participation of the non Spanish population in local politics.

She is very concerned with the local environment and feels very strongly about the neglect she sees throughout Orihuela Costa, especially with regard to street cleanliness, the poor state of repair of the roads, and the neglect of parks and gardens. She feels that the town hall shows no concern to the state of the neglect within the various urbanisations and asks “Why do we pay local taxes when nothing gets done?”
