Finals night kicked off with the triples, an all Hub affair, league champions versus runners up. Joe Miller won the bull and started with an 85, the Kats response from Pat Abrams was a 140.

Simon Williams and Joe Hawkins 100 supported well, the opposition via Lee Maiden countering with a 95, Abrams yet another 140. It was nip and tuck down to low 3 figures.

Paul Durrant hit his best score of the 701 to leave a shot which was tidied up by Maiden on D20. The Kats turned the screw in the second with six 80+ scores, Abrams 125, Maiden 100, the opposition hanging in there but a gap emerging. Durrant once again set up a nice finish for Abrams to game shot on D20. Miller recording the Hyenas only ton.

Williams and Miller opened with some decent scoring with what was to be the last leg, Hawkins struggling just a little. Tons from Durrant and Abrams added to five more 80+ left the Hyenas back in three figures territory as Maiden calmly planted D10 second arrow for a convincing 3-0 victory. Hawkins admitted to being a little nervy in his first important final, but the experience will do his unquestionable ability no harm.

The mens singles semis followed, with the contestants doing the draw to determine their destiny. Abrams drew Alex Nikolov in the first winning the bull. Both players found the treble 20 surprisingly easy to hit, however only Abrams managed a ton in the first. Doubles opportunities were missed by Nikolov as Abrams took the first on D8 and then opened with 85,140,100 in the second. Just a ton from the likeable Bulgarian as Abrams made it 2-0 on D2.

Nikolov managed three 80+ scores in the third, but Abrams stuck with him and concluded the match on D10 for a place in the final. Abrams opponent was to be either John Eyre or Nick Spicer both from the Hub Hyenas. Eyre won the bull and started with some accurate but modest scoring arrows. Spicer´s opening shot of just 11 was followed by 100,140,122 plus D2 for the first. Two more tons from Spiceman were equalled by Eyre in the second, who closed the leg for one apiece.

It was dart for dart in the next, both players rarely missing the 20 bed and always finding the treble, ending with Eyre going ahead on D20. Both Hyenas traded tons in the fourth, plus a couple of real dodgy scores, before Spiceman made it all square on D10. Eyre struggled in the decider, probably due to the heat, Spicer taking full advantage of winning the throw to go well into the lead with a 120 (one on the floor) and a 99.

The outcome was inevitable as requiring D16, Spicer found the middle of the double for a 3-2 score in what was a very exciting match.

A 15 minute break followed before the same two were on the oche again, this time against Paul Dowington and Peter O´Rourke (Busters) in the pairs final. Dowington won the bull and started with a 140, steady scores from Spicer were accompanied by a 121 from Eyre. O´Rourke used two darts to take the opener.

Six 80+ scores, three from each team, plus a 132 from Eyre gave Spicer the chance to level on D16. Despite the Hyenas being favourites, the Busters duo gave a real good account of themselves scoring heavily in the third. Unfortunately the cuddly duo were on a roll and scores of 99,140,125 were enough for Spiceman to make it 2-1 on D16.

Dowington pulled out the stops in the fourth, 81,100,100, partner O´Rourke just struggling to find any consistency. Both teams made it to the double together, both unconvincing in their double attempts until Spicer made it 3-1 on D10 to take the title.

The Alex Nikolov Building Services Ladies Final followed with Simone de Lacy (Junction Jaguars) facing Leah Chesworth (Sporting Life) for the magnificent Nikolov trophy. De Lacy won the bull, both girls scoring steadily to get to a shot in 18 darts.

The Jaguar had first chance of a double and immediately took it for 1-0 on D16. Chesworth enjoyed throw in the second and reeled off four decent scores. De Lacy´s response was explosive 81,81,60,100,100 to leave an out after 15.

Chesworth was close to the Jaguar, her last three darts leaving a game shot opportunity, it wasn’t to be however as de Lacy found S10,D5 for 2-0 and the coveted title. It was one of the best Ladies Singles Finals I have witnessed and very enjoyable for the packed Celler audience.

Next on before the Presentation were Pat Abrams and Nick Spicer to battle for the Singles title, what a prospect. Spicer won the all important bull and opened with 100,81,120 and 98. Abrams response was 140,100 and scores enough to get first tilt at D14 achieved second arrow for 1-0.

Abrams lone score of 81 in the second was totally eclipsed by his opponent´s 140,81,140 plus D16 to level. A 121 from Spicer in the third was the highest from both as requiring 97 the Hyena used just two to finish the 501 on T19,D20 for a 2-1 lead. It was Spicer´s turn to hit just the one high score in the fourth, a ton, as Abrams managed 2 tons and 95 to leave 36, achieved next time on the oche with D9. At two each it was bull up for the decider as Abrams found the semi, Spicer just outside.

It proved crucial as the fifth was score for score. Two tons each, three 80+ scores each, but the throw proved vital as Abrams was first to the double securing D8 for victory and the defence of his title. Fantastic conclusion to the Euronics League.

The Presentation followed, conducted by Tracey Dodds of Euronics, in the absence of Debbie and Dave Wright currently enjoying life with friends Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel in Barcelona.
