SERVICE OF THANKSGIVING & COMMEMORATION – WW2 – VE70 – VICTORY IN EUROPE

On the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the World War 2 – ‘Victory in Europe’ – celebrations on Sunday 10 May 2015 some 100 members of the local Torrevieja communities gathered together in the shade of the La Siesta Urbanisation Church Centre’s grounds and gardens – centred on the ‘Memorial Garden of Remembrance’ – to celebrate with commemorations and thanksgiving.
The occasion was coordinated by the local Torrevieja Branch of The Royal British Legion with a poignant Order of Service being led by Revd Andrew Rea, a member of the Torrevieja Anglican Chaplaincy Clergy team
The Royal British Legion paraded their Standards together with those of the local ex-Service Associations from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Forces
Members of The Royal British Legion also played an active part in the ceremony with the Branch Chairman Gerry Lynch, reading the ‘Exhortation’, Gill Burden the Branch President read a passage from the Bible and Dianne Forbes , a Committee member, reading the ‘Kohima Epitaph’.
A member of the Evangelical Congregation, Chas Smith, played the ‘Last Post’ – after the 2 minutes silence – ‘Reveille’ and accompanied the singing of the ‘The National Anthem’
On completion of the thanksgiving Service, wreaths were laid by The Royal British Legion Branch President and representatives from the ex-Service Associations. A number of individuals also paid their personal respects and tributes by laying their own Poppy Crosses.
