Fraudsters Arrested
Officers from the Guardia Civil have arrested 13 people across Valencia and Palma de Mallorca accused of being part of a criminal group involved in the so called “Nigerian Letters” scam.
By contacting victims to claim the inheritance of a family member, the group are believed to have managed to obtain over a million euro in bank transfers. The evidence already collated in the case shows that 200,000 euro worth of money at least has been obtained through the fraudulent method following the original complaint by a Belgian woman that she had given 200,000 euro in order to receive the 9 million which had been deposited by a distant relative in Spain before passing away.
