11th ANNUAL GARAY CUP – COSTA BLANCA GOLF LEAGUE vs. VEGA BAJA PREMIER GOLF LEAGUE

BONALBA GOLF RESORT – 29th MAY 2015
This was the eleventh annual tournament between the two golf league teams since its inauguration in 2004 and each league has won the same amount of matches five each. It was played at Bonalba Golf Resort where 18 players represented their respective League.

The competition was originally suggested and sponsored by Snr. Manolo Garay So this year the competition as it would break the year long deadlock

The Bonalba course is always a challenging course and since its improvement sthe course, is an ideal venue although a Home course for Costa Blanca North. The format was Fourball Better Ball Matchplay with the lowest handicap giving shots a 90% difference of the handicaps

It was a perfect day for golf with the temperatures a little down from the norm for the end of May, but very welcome by both teams

As the scores show there was not a lot to choose between the two teams as is nearly always the case in these annual competitions and for the Vega Baja Premier Golf League to come up short by a single and the ladies two of them representing the VBPGL came through both on the winning team.

As always the matches were played in the best of spirit and both teams stated how much they enjoyed the day and the major benefit they get to play with other golfers they would not normally come into contact with on the golf course, and this can only be good for both of these Leagues and golf. Thanks should go to players of the VBPGL who had an early start and travelled from the Costa Calida.

The Manolo Garay presented Richard Davis Captain of the CBGL with the trophy which means they are now 6 games to 5 in the overall tournaments. Ivie Davies thanked both teams for the good spirit in which the competition had been played and to Richard Davis and all the staff at Bonalba Golf Resort for ensuring the course was in good condition and their support in providing Tappas and beverages.
