ELCHE CF RELEGATED: NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY
Elche Club de Fútbol finally learned their fate on Friday morning and it was the decision feared by everyone connected with the club; relegation to the Segunda A Division.
After days and weeks of speculation, much of which was found to be correct, the waiting is over and a sentence has been passed. Acting on the recommendation of the presiding judge, Javier Tebas, president of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), decreed Elche CF should be subject to an “administrative relegation” for repeated breach of the financial regulations contained in La Liga’s bye-laws.
In addition, and as an additional sanction, the club was hit with a fine amounting to 180,303.63 euros.
Further details also emerged from the ruling which clearly indicated that in spite of the public utterances of newly installed Elche president Juan Anguix, who declared an agreement was in place with the Hacienda to settle the clubs entire tax debt by August the 1st, no such agreement was ever made.
In point of fact, the ruling clearly stated the liability to the Agencia Estatal de la Administración Tributaria (AEAT) is “neither paid, postponed nor guaranteed” The club, under it’s previous board of directors is also widely reported to have reneged on previous promises.
Elche CF now has fifteen days to appeal the decision by one of three methods; The Administrative Tribunal of Sport (TAD), The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) or, if all else fails, the Spanish Civil Courts. The club was due to hold a press conference on Friday, to give their reaction to the judgement and confirm their intentions going forward.
Meanwhile, a massive demonstration by unhappy fans and season ticket holders was planned for Elche city centre on Friday evening.
