Fake Wines Seized in Major Operation
Officers from the Guardia Civil have seized 41,000 litres of wine and 200 litres of other alcoholic drinks, on account of their denomination of origin being fake.
The investigation began when officers carried out inspections at various fairs in the province of Cádiz, where the officers found a range of wines being sold at considerably lower than market price. That wine was immediately seized and its origin investigated, which led officers to a bodega whose owner has now been arrested and charged with crimes against intellectual property and fraud.
The operation was conducted with the collaboration of the Ministry of Health in the Government of Andalusia and the Sherry Regulatory Council.
