Dumped Baby Rescued by Police

A newborn baby was rescued from an underground rubbish container in the Mejorada del Campo area of Madrid on Wednesday morning.

A man walking his dog heard what he thought were the cries of a baby and alerted the Guardia Civil, who in turn called on the fire service to assist in accessing the underground container.

The baby was found in a plastic bag inside a rucksack but was said to be in good health.

An investigation has been launched to try to identify the parents.
