Alicante town hall has announced a licensing scheme for responsible dog owners, which will allow pets such privileges as visiting some of the public buildings in the city, and using public transport.

The scheme is an extension of the mandatory registration process which the city has adopted, but is frequently ignored by dog owners. Therefore, the new scheme aims to give added value to the 35 euro registration scheme by allowing registered dogs onto the bus, certain public buildings and some beaches.

However, the animal registration department has also pointed out that this also requires the creation of a beach in Alicante where dogs are allowed to visit, which they hope will be a possibility after the summer.
