Councillor for the Coast Post Reinstated
The mayor of Orihuela, Emilio Bascuñana, has announced that the role of Councillor for the Coast in Orihuela will be reinstated, with the Councillor for Tourism, Beaches, international residents and urban transport, Sofía Álvarez, assuming the responsibilities that were taken away from the role and centralised in the city of Orihuela when the new government took over after the elections.
According to the town hall, the goal is to provide residents of Orihuela Costa access to services and the care they require and improve the organisation.
Many coastal residents voiced concerns after the competencies were taken away from the coast as the state of the streets and beaches were an apparent indication of the amount of neglect they were suffering.
In the previous government of Orihuela the role was fulfilled by councillor Martina Scheurer.
