The investigation began after a couple reported a number of items missing from their home, including jewellery and cash, despite their property being securely locked. The husband had recently been the victim of theft when his backpack was stolen in Torrevieja containing his house keys and documentation.

During the investigation, witnesses reported seeing a man wearing cycling gear and a helmet hanging around near the property, two days before the theft occurred. The investigation then led officers to a shop nearby which was selling items matching the descriptions of those missing, the shop owner describing the seller as wearing the same clothing as the person witnesses reported near the property.

The officers believed a third party was also involved in the sale of the goods without proof of ownership who was also arrested for handling stolen goods.

The perpetrators were delivered to the courts in Orihuela.
