A security alert was triggered at Bristol airport on Saturday evening, with flights being diverted and the airport evacuated.

A suspicious note claiming that a bomb was on board was found on a Ryanair jet which had flown from Alicante, with flight number FR8297 on Saturday.

The bomb threat was found to be a hoax and the airport reopened some time later, although with many passengers already diverted to other airports and delays felt into the night.

An investigation has been opened by the UK police to identify the person who make the fake threat.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police in the UK said, “We will be speaking to all the passengers on board the plane, and have already spoken to some of them. Anyone with information should contact police on 101.”
