The recently closed down public aquarium in Alicante has been vandalised, after animal rights supporters daubed the facility with graffiti complaining of its recent closure, after it was revealed that the 177 marine specimens previously living in it had been killed.
Some members of the local government have been trying to get the facility reopened, which was closed due to the cost of maintaining it.
Now, the town hall are estimating that cleaning the graffiti will cost around 15,000 euro, which they say could have gone to feed 41 children for 10 days.
The police have launched an investigation into the painting, but not the death of the fish.
