Unions representing the officers wanted to arrange a demonstration protesting about the reduction in the number of officers assigned to investigate corruption, especially within political groups.

In addition, they are calling for action after a car driven by the Police Commissioner suffered damage consistent with having reversed into a fixed structure, but the police were prevented from investigating the matter and we told that the driver could not and would not be identified.

The protest was due to take place outside the entrance doors of the police station but the government has refused on the grounds that the country is on a heightened security level and a concentration of police officers in one place would pose a risk. The government has proposed allowing the protest on the 25th of this month in a different location, on the same street at the corner of the police station.
