A conman who pretended that he could do house repairs and swindled at least 11 thousand euro out of unsuspecting clients over a two month period, has been arrested by the Guardia Civil at his home in Los Alcazares. A dozen in San Pedro del Pinatar, El Algar, and San Javier hired the services of the Spaniard, who claimed to be a builder and who advertised in leaflets that were distributed across the Mar Menor area. He merely pocketed any money handed over to him in good faith and did nothing, with the Guardia revealing that he had an existing criminal record for doing the same thing in the past. He’d go round customers to do an estimate for the work and then take a deposit for materials that he planned to buy, only to never appear again. His “company” never existed and authorities are continuing investigations in the expectation that other victims of the fraudster will come forward.
