Local Government Transparency Act Comes Into Force
Autonomous communities and municipalities are required to be fully compliant with the new laws of transparency by Thursday of this week.
The law was approved two years ago and implemented a year later by the central government, in an attempt to show how the local political scene is being cleaned up after a history of corruption and scandal.
The law comes into force on December the 10th, with the principles of “Good Governance” spreading through all public offices and officials, it is hoped.
Local and autonomous governments must by now have a portal in operation that allows information to be read by interested parties.
The Valencia regional government has appointed an agency to ensure compliance, but are yet to fully implement the scheme. Many other governments have yet to start the process of implementation.
