Police Officer Donates Prize Fund to the Needy (and the tax man)
A Spanish police inspector, Luís Esteban, won a 354,000 euro jackpot on the TV game show Pasapalabra.
However, given that the officer, who is based in the Manacor on the island of Mallorca, believes it is “moral obligation to help people in need”, as he puts it, he has donated his entire prize winnings to the Cáritas charity to help the needy.
However, despite the officer´s generosity, the tax office has retained their portion of hi prize as his contribution to the state. The officer is happy about his tax contribution though, as that money also then gets invested back into society in schools, hospitals, roads etc, he says.
