Handcuffed Man Escapes Custody in Torrevieja

A handcuffed man escaped police custody on Saturday after finding out at the courts that he was to be removed from the country for not having the necessary paperwork to remain in the country.

The man, of Moroccan nationality, was set to be transported to the immigration detention centre in Zapardores, Valencia, but as the officers opened the van doors there was a moment of confusion and the man fled the scene, still handcuffed.

As of Tuesday, the fugitive was still missing.
