The investigation began following a claim from a woman who reported having lost her baby through a miscarriage caused by being involved in a collision. The evidence then proved that the woman had already undergone an abortion through a chemical process.

The investigators in Almería then found similar cases in which pregnant women had claimed the loss of a baby following minor traffic incidents, with around a dozen cases indicating similar patterns.

The case is currently under further investigation and the facts are being kept under wraps by a gagging order, although further arrests are not ruled out, including the potential widening of the investigation through other parts of Spain.
