Five people have been killed and another three injured in a road traffic incident on the Lorca-Águilas motorway on Tuesday morning.
The 112 emergency coordination centre received a call at 07:19 reporting that a vehicle had left the road and fallen down an embankment at a bridge. The caller indicated that people were trapped inside the vehicle and suffering varying degrees of serious injuries.
Fire fighters, medics and the Guardia Civil all rushed to the scene and found the vehicle with eight occupants, five of whom having apparently lost their lives in the impact.
The occupants were extracted from the vehicles where medical staff were able to confirm the deaths and treat the remaining three, one of whom was in a serious condition, the other two having suffered minor injuries.
