A woman, believed to be in her fifties, was killed on Monday in a head-on collision on the N-332 main road in the Gandia area, north of Alicante.
The victim was the sole occupant of the vehicle which collided with an oncoming truck in a location known as the curvas de Sant Joan at around 8 in the morning.
The impact was so great that the victim´s vehicle was almost destroyed outright, killing the driver instantly.
The Guardia Civil traffic police rushed to the scene, along with fire fighters and medics, who carried out an extraction whilst the road was closed for some time.
The traffic police are now investigating the incident to ascertain which of the two vehicles invaded the opposite carriageway so as to determine the cause of the crash, and ascertain what other factors may have contributed to the tragedy.
