Torrevieja Scam Warning
Torrevieja town hall are warning members of the public and businesses to be aware of two scams which are causing concern, targeting people in the town.
The first is related to beach safety and lifeguards whereas groups of people claiming to represent the lifeguards on the beaches are collecting money for equipment. The lifeguards and the service they provide is paid for directly by the town hall and therefore this has been identified as a scam.
The second scam revolves around a sports event at the end of the month with the scammers claiming that they are producing a magazine and guide for the event, supported by the town hall, and are therefore selling adverts for sponsorship of the event. Again, the town hall are not running such an event and do not authorize such practice as the publishing of the magazine, so businesses are warned to be aware that this too is a scam.
Anybody who has become a victim of these scams, or who is approached, is asked to notify the local police of the facts.
