Heavy storms showed up the inadequacy of the newly-installed stormwater tank in the Lo Pagán area of San Pedro del Pinatar according to the Pacto por el Mar Menor environmental group. The improvements were launched amidst great publicity by the council in February, but the Pacto group say that the torrential rain meant the facility could not cope as flooding still occurred leading to the Mar Menor being polluted.

The group also criticised the amount of rubbish that ended up on Villananitos beach, which suggested that the area’s drainage and guttering systems had not done their job.
