Murcia’s president, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, says that the tender for operating the unopened Corvera airport will be advertised before Christmas, after several failed attempts during the year in getting the contract details published.
Sánchez added that regional works minister Pedro Rivera had fruitful talks with eight tour operators and airline companies at London’s World Tourist Fair last week, and denied that it was trying to sell them something that was not set to become a reality in the near future.
Observers have suggested that it is unlikely that Corvera will open next year as a replacement for San Javier, though back in the spring, prospective operators of the new facility were shown around the empty airport, ahead of the delayed start to the bidding process for the contract.
