Nine people escaped from an Immigrant Internment Centre (CIE) in Sangonera in the Murcia region on Monday night in the third such incident there in just over a month. The escape happened after a revolt of inmates at the centre in which nine policemen suffered slight injuries.
Inmates set fire to papers and cardboard, with the fire brigade called in, with some of the inmates using the confusion to escape. The Murcia CIE has a capacity for 130 inmates and the start of October saw 67 inmates escape after a similar revolt, while five more escaped at the end of last month.
