Over four thousand packets of illegally produced cigarettes have been seized by the Guardia Civil in Alicante in two operations. A 44-year-old Algerian arrived by ferry from North Africa and told customs officials that he had nothing to declare in a nervous manner, after he wanted to pass the various checkpoints quickly. Nine hundred and twenty packets of Marlboro branded cigarettes were found hidden in the boot of his car under a number of packages, with a market value of over four thousand euro.
Meanwhile, two Russians aged in their thirties were arrested at Alicante-Elche airport as they flew in from Amsterdam, carrying four suitcases crammed full of counterfeit fags. Over three thousand fake branded Marlboro and Winston cigarettes potentially worth over 15,000 euro were discovered.
